Diversifying and Balancing Student Development

Providing Medical Care and Cultivating Humanity

KMU Office of Student Affairs is guiding and assisting students with the philosophy of “comprehensive care and active service” and with 4H (Health, Humanity, Harmony, and Hope) as its goal. The 4H aims to enhance students’ physical and mental health, provide professional and complete care services by integrating campus and hospital resources (such as student’s outpatient services in KMUH) and providing mental health counseling services staffed by professional psychiatrists and mental health counselors.

Office of Student Affairs also provides guidance to students who practice humanistic care through Service-Learning on their project or activity planning. Students will be encouraged to visit neighboring or remote communities. Service-Learning offers good opportunities for students to learn outside of the classroom and accumulate precious experiences. Through interacting with various communities, students are allowed to experience the nature of care, love, and service, and at the same time express their concerns over certain social issues.

Student Activities and Advisory

KMU students are encouraged to partake in extracurricular activities to develop themselves in all areas and to enhance their interpersonal, cooperative, and leadership skills. Currently, there are a total of 95 student societies and clubs available on campus. Besides the self-governing ones, all other clubs can be classified into six categories emphasizing respectively knowledge and skills, music, recreation, athletics, social services, and peer interactions.

KMU Student clubs are expected to be actively involved in inter-university programs and activities in order to accumulate experience, development friendship, and learn from their peers. Through taking part in inter-university competitions, students can learn or even gain recognition for their skills and efforts. In recent years, KMU student clubs have gained much success at national level competitions.

According to KMU mentoring system, faculty members are selected from each department and graduate program to mentor their own students on academic performances. An online interactive teacher-student platform is provided to improve student-teacher interaction and relationship. The Office of Student Affairs also keeps track of the interactive sessions between mentors and students. To further improve guidance and counseling services, counseling teachers are also provided to guide students’ campus life.

Communication between Students and Teachers

In order to create a harmonious campus life, meetings and forums are held regularly to improve communication. The Student Counseling Division gives good advice and support to students to deal with problems of life. In order to encourage good performances, various scholarships for academic achievements are offered. Funding is also provided to assist students who have financial difficulties or are faced with emergency situations.

Students’ Career Development

The Career Development Center organizes a variety of activities and provides tools such as E-Portfolio and MAPA (Multiple Aspects Personality Assessment) to help students with their career exploration and planning for future development.

KMU is making every effort to create a good learning environment and provides a variety of campus services for students to enjoy an active campus life and perform well academically and morally.
