Brief Introduction

Professor Dr. Yi-Hsin Yang, also known as Connie Yang, is currently a professor in School of Pharmacy, Kaohsiung Medical University, and the director for the Division of Medical Statistics and Bioinformatics, Department of Medical Research, Kaohsiung Medical University Hospital, Taiwan. Professor Yi-Hsin Yang received her PhD degree in Biostatistics from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA.

She has worked in the field of oral oncology and oral public health since 1996 as a faculty in the College of Dental Medicine, Kaohsiung Medical University. She had conducted several population-based research studies in Taiwan on betel quid usage and prevalence of oral cancer/oral potentially malignant disorders. Her studies also include oral cancer screening and cancer prognosis from treatment modality. She validated the Taiwan version of Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP), and conducted several clinical studies on responsiveness of this instrument.

She joined the faculty of College of Pharmacy in August 2011. Since then, she has been actively involved in the field of pharmacoepidemiogy. Her research has focused on health related database analysis. She published several articles in chemoprevention agents for cancers as well as effectiveness on cancer treatment modalities.

Professor Yang is currently the director of Medical Informatics and Statistics Center in KMU, which simultaneously maintain the Health and Welfare Data Science Center, KMU sub-center. She has been devoted to promote research on health administrative database and government database (particularly, the National Health Insurance Research Database, Cancer Registry Database, Cancer Screening Database, National Health Interview Survey, etc). Her focus includes analysis methodology and clinical research using health database.

She is also a specialty in teaching and consulting on application of statistical analysis in dental/medical research, and has developed e-learning courses (in Chinese) for a wide range of researchers.

She has authored book chapters for oral public health books and has published research papers in peer-reviewed journals on fields including betel quid related lesions, oral health related quality of life and statistical analysis in dental/medical research, pharmacoepidemiology and cancer epidemiology.
