Healthy, Safe, and Friendly Campus
\nIn order to improve students\u2019 physical and mental health, KMU integrates
\nthe resources from school and hospitals to offer a professional and total
\nphysical and mental healthcare service. For example, the KMU student
\noutpatient service offers psychological counselling by professional and
\nexperienced psychiatrists and counsellors. In addition, diverse and interesting
\nsports activities, health improvement, and psychological counselling
\nactivities help to improve students\u2019 physical and mental health.
\nBesides, the improvement of hardware equipment and the transportation
\nenvironment give students a safe learning milieu. In 2011, KMU was listed
\nas \u201cInternational Safe School\u201d by WHO (the World Health Organization),
\nthe first university to win this reputation in Kaohsiung. In 2014, KMU
\nformed \u201cEast-Kaohsiung Universities\u2019 Mutual Security Alliance of Students\u2019
\nRenting Houses\u201d with National Sun Yat-sen University, Wenzao Ursuline
\nUniversity of Languages, and Cheng Shiu University to safeguard students\u2019
\nsecurity.
\nHaving good communication with students is highly valued by KMU.
\nBesides a student\u2019s immediate report network system and an appointment
\nwith the president, the students\u2019 association holds public hearings about
\npublic issues on campus to discuss issues concerning students\u2019 rights and
\nfoster student direct dialogue with the administrative offices. In this way,
\nstudents can learn how to communicate with people, strengthen the soft
\npower in their career, and respect others; accordingly, KMU is highly praised
\nby upholding students\u2019 rights. In 2011, KMU was awarded the second place
\nof the \u201cEvaluation of College Students\u2019 Rights\u201d and \u201cThe Outstanding
\nUniversity with A Friendly Campus Award\u201d in 2012. (The only one\u00a0nationwide.)<\/p>\n

The Balanced Development of
\nStudents\u2019 Five Major Aspects<\/p>\n

Providing medical service is the core value of KMU. Many
\nalumni or teachers are awarded a \u201cMedical Contribution Award\u201d
\nevery year. So far, 26 persons have received this award, the most
\nwinners in all of Taiwan\u2019s universities.
\nIn order to propagate the excellent tradition of caring and
\ndevotion, KMU advocates moral education, includes \u201cService
\nLearning\u201d into Freshman-required subjects, and offers selected
\ncourses such as \u201cMedical Treatment and Devotion\u201d and \u201cOutstanding
\npeople and events of KMU.\u201d In order to cultivate students\u2019 humanitarian
\nprinciples and carry out social care, the office of Student Affairs
\nand the Office of International Affairs tutor students to participate
\nin community, social, and international services.
\nIn 2001, KMU was awarded the \u201cSpecial Contribution Award of
\nMedical treatments in Mountains and Islands\u201d by the Department of
\nHealth, the Executive Yuan. In 2002, KMU was awarded \u201cThe
\nSixth-Term Award of Improving Indigenous Social Development\u201d
\nby the Council of Indigenous Peoples, the Executive Yuan. The
\ninternational volunteer services have received an award each year
\nsince 2007. Its excellent style of education won KMU awards as
\n\u201cSchool of Excellent Moral Education\u201d by the Ministry of Education
\nin 2010, and \u201cCharacteristic School with Moral Education\u201d in
\n2013 and 2014.
\nIn order to equip students with five moral and intellectual aspects,
\nKMU not only educates students withofficial courses to improve
\nstudents\u2019 professional knowledge but encourages them to take
\npart in sports and student association activities as well. In
\naddition, KMU holds various cultural and artistic activities including
\nacademy of life since 2010, and \u201call freshmen as academic students\u201d
\nactivity in 2013. By extracurricular learning activities, students
\nare equipped with the humanities, citizenship, and diverse abilities,
\nincluding moral, intellectual, physical, communitarian and aesthetic
\nabilities. From 2011, KMU has received the grants of \u201cCultivation
\nof Citizenship of All School Students\u201d from the Ministry of Education
\nover the past three years. The student associations are developed
\nvery well. From 2010 to 2014, KMU\u2019s student associations and
\nstudent council have been assessed as Excellent by the evaluation
\nof nationwide student associations and student councils.<\/p>\n

Giving advice to plural career
\nchoices and foreign students
\nIn order to cultivate student competency in future career choices,
\nKMU adds advice on future careers to the Program for Promoting
\nTeaching Excellence Universities: giving career advice since
\nentrance to the school, offering courses related to future career
\nplans, having future career advisers in each department, integrating
\nalumnus resources on the net to provide students with employment
\nopportunities, cooperating in research and industry-university
\nsynergies, and giving counseling re employment and the way to
\nstart an enterprise. What\u2019s more, KMU also thinks highly of
\ncultivating career soft power. With the help of courses related
\nto soft power, academic education, service learning, student
\nassociation activities and sports activities, students\u2019 work-study
\nand designing checks and feedback with a view to fostering
\nstudents\u2019 career soft power is enhanced.
\nIn response to the trend of internationalization, KMU pays much
\nattention to giving counseling to overseas students and foreign
\nstudents. The Division of Overseas Student Counseling assists
\nthese overseas students to get accustomed to the new environment
\nby offering living counseling, overseas student association
\ncounseling, and schoolwork tutoring. Besides, the Division also
\nintroduces Taiwanese culture to the overseas students by holding
\nTaiwanese culture study camps and cultivates their willingness to
\ngiving services to people by offering returning-home or domestic
\nservices. KMU\u2019s efforts of counseling overseas students have
\ngained positive evaluation from the Ministry of Education. In
\n2009, KMU won the \u201coutstanding performance on overseas student
\ncounseling award\u201d by the Ministry of Education.
\nKMU is devoted to providing students with a good learning
\nenvironment and hopes to create a campus full of prosperity and
\ncreativity, by which students can wander between learning and
\njoining extracurricular activities to fully enjoy humanistic education
