The educational goal of College of Medicine is to cultivate
\nspecialists with \u201cprofessional knowledge, social accountabilities,
\ncommunity service, and international visions.\u201d The College of
\nMedicine emphasizes the integration of the humanities and
\nmedicine so as to cultivate students with the capabilities of
\nproviding holistic healthcare, professionalism, communication
\nability, administrative ability, professional medical knowledge,
\nand lifelong learning ability. There are 2100 students and 300
\ntenure-track faculties in the college. The College of Medicine has
\nthree sub-divisions: \u201cTeaching Division\u201d, \u201cResearch, Developmental
\nand International Division\u201d and \u201cGeneral Division\u201d to serve the
\nneeds of the college development.
\nIn 2007, in order to continue rigorously promoting research, the
\n\u201cTropical Medical Research Center, \u201cSepsis Research Center,
\n\u201dMedical Educational Center,\u201d “Hepatitis Research Center,” and
\n“Diabetes Research Centre” and “Center for Dengue Fever Control
\nand Research” were established. The teaching and research units
\nof College of Medicine not only work together to carry out
\nCollege\u2019s mid- and long-term developmental and attempt to
\npromote localization and internationalization in four aspects:
\nfaculty, students, teaching materials, and research, but also aim to
\nstrengthen the interdisciplinary industry-university cooperation.
\nIn addition, through integration of individual expertise and
\nspecialty, the departments can develop their own features in line
\nwith the local and global needs and trends.
\nThe College of Medicine continues employing teachers each year
\nto uphold the teaching quality. In teaching, some courses have
\nbeen integrated in order to connect with the KMU Ministry of
\nEducation Teaching Excellence project. The college encourage
\nfaculty to develop creative teaching methods, cultivate students\u2019
\nself-learning ability, and promote the education of medical
\nhumanities. In research, the college forms a research and
\ndevelopmental platform of translational medicine, carries out the
\nintegration of results from academic research and application of
\nclinical medicine, secures funding for national integrated research
\nprojects, establishes the cross-university research center with National
\nSun Yat-sen University, and increases the number of papers and
\nSCI papers in clinical medical and basic medical fields.
\nIn service learning, the college implements service learning and
\ninternational volunteering service projects via collaboration
\nbetween teachers and students, teamwork and support and
\nguidance from the university. We have student volunteer service
\ngroups participated in the international service in India, Swaziland,
\nMalawi, and Solomon Islands each year. In internationalization,
\nthe college extends international academic exchange, develops
\ninternational student exchange projects, invites international
\nprofessors (holding \u201cInternational Symposium for Liver Diseases\u201d
\nwith Harvard University), and develops medical technology through
\ncollaboration with Waseda University. In industry-university
\ncooperation, teachers actively participate in industry-university
\ncooperation projects and share research results with academic
\nfields and industries. The results are fruitful.
\nIn order to promote the cooperation of the dual-degree program
\nbetween KMU and foreign universities, KMU seeks establishing
\ndual-degree with renowned foreign universities, which not only
\noffers teachers and students at KMU more international resources
\nand cooperating opportunities but also increases academic
\nexchange synergies with overseas universities.<\/p>\n

In regard to implementation of dual-degree program: the College
\nof Medicine and the College of Dental Medicine have signed a
\ndoctoral dual-degree agreement with the University of California,
\nIrvine; additionally, in November 2012, the College of Medicine
\nand the College of Pharmacy have signed a doctoral dual-degree
\nagreement with the College of Pharmacy of Uppsala University,
\nSweden.
\nThe future prospects and priorities of the College of Medicine are
\nas follows:
\n\u2027To promote teacher research capacity and competitiveness
\n\u2027To integrate basic medical sciences and applications of clinical
\nmedicine
\n\u2027To elevate Student A.S.K. (Attitude, Skill, Knowledge) and
\nemployment rate
\n\u2027To increase academic potential and extend biomedical industryuniversity
\ncooperation via the integration of teamwork and
\ncoordination of resources of basic medical and clinical sciences.
\n\u2027To march toward research internationalization by cooperating
\nwith international research teams
\n\u2027To replace older equipment to upgrade teaching and research
\nquality and efficiency
\n\u2027To strengthen international academic research and promote
\ninternational awareness by encouraging teachers to visit and do\u00a0short-term studies in overseas universities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
