\u25cfSchool of Nursing (Undergraduate, Master\u2019s and PhD Programs)
\n\u25cfMaster\u2019s Degree Program in Aging and Long-Term Care<\/p>\n

The predecessor of the College of Nursing is the School of Nursing.
\nThe current School of Nursing began with a 3-year Associate
\nProgram in Nursing established in 1969, followed by the creation
\nof the School of Nursing in 1975. The School of Nursing aims to
\ncultivate virtuous and high-quality professionals with nursing
\nbackground to meet the special demands in Southern Taiwan. In
\norder to increase the learning channels for nurses and upgrade
\neducational level, the MS. Program- the third MS. Program in
\nNursing in Taiwan, was established in 1991. The College, the
\nsecond College of Nursing within universities in Taiwan, was
\nestablished in 1999 when Kaohsiung Medical College was renamed
\nKaohsiung Medical University.
\nOwing to the outstanding educational accountability of the
\nGraduate Institute of Nursing, ten years after the establishment of
\nthe MS. Program, the Doctoral Program in Nursing was founded in
\n2001 (the second one in Taiwan). In the same year, the Graduate
\nInstitute of Gender Studies was established (the second one in
\nTaiwan, and the only Institute of Gender Studies set up in a medical
\nuniversity.) The Institute integrates sociology and gender studies
\nto give healthcare education and research diverse perspectives of
\nthinking and resources, which multiplies and enriches teaching
\nand research approaches. This unique feature has gained high
\npraise both domestically and internationally.
\nThe Graduate Institute of Gender Studies was affiliated with the
\nCollege of Humanities and Social Science in accordance with
\nKMU\u2019s organizational restructuring in 2012. In 2013, the College
\nestablished the \u201cMaster\u2019s Degree Program in Aging and Long-
\nTerm Care\u201d to meet the demands of the elderly population in
\ncontemporary society, and to cultivate professional long-term
\ncare specialists with professional competence and humanism.
\nBased on the philosophy of \u201cHolistic Education\u201d and the vision
\nof \u201cLeading Nursing and Lon-term Care Profession in line with
\ninternational trends\u201d, the College is dedicated to outstanding and
\ninnovative teaching, research and service. Our goal is to educate
\nour students to be multidisciplined professionals and researchers in
\nnursing as well as long-term care with global views and humanist
\nvalues. The following are the developmental focal points:
\n1.Novel Teaching Facilities, Adequate Learning Space: The College
\nis equipped with specialized classrooms, such as: “Teaching
\nCenter for Basic Clinical Skills”, ” Demolab for Nutriology “,<\/p>\n

“Demolab for Traditional Chinese Medicine Nursing” and “Selflearning
\nComputer Center”, and regularly updates its software
\nand hardware facilities, which meet students’ learning needs.
\n2.Integration of Diverse Teaching Methods into Curriculum: Our
\nteachers apply diverse methods such as Objective Structured
\nClinical Examination (OSCE), Problem-Based Learning ( PBL),
\nConcept Mapping, Interprofessional and Team-Based Learning
\n(TBL), and Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) in classroom
\nteaching, and create a quality learning environment that fosters
\ninteractive environment, autonomous learning, teamwork and
\ncritical thinking in students.
\n3.Active International Academic Exchanges: The College opens
\nstudy abroad courses at each academic program, and signed
\nexchange agreements with several globally renowned nursingrelated
\nacademic institutions in the United States, Japan and
\nHong Kong, for which foreign scholars are often invited for
\njoint teaching and lectures, and overseas visits and studies are
\nregularly organized to expand faculty and students\u2019 international
\nperspective.
\n4.Thorough Combination of Theory and Clinical Practice: Our
\nteachers do both classroom teaching and clinical practice
\ninstruction, to achieve the goal of emphasizing both theory and
\npractice, as well as aligning curriculum with clinical practice.
\n5.Interdisciplinary Industry-university Cooperation and R&D
\nLinked Up with Practice: The College actively establishes
\npartnerships with health and long-term care institutions,
\nexpanding research resources, and developing cross-school and
\ninterdisciplinary industry-university cooperation programs and
\nintegrated research projects based on clinical practice, to
\nenhance the quality of care in clinical practice.
\nAs for the outlook, in order to secure its educational accountability
\nand cultivate professionals in line with the demands of the nation
\nand society, the College will persevere with the following
\nendeavors: Promoting course reforms, developing Interprofessional
\nteaching in a long-term care enhancing research capacity, promoting
\nindustry-university cooperative research projects; fostering student
\nrecruitment and counselling, caring for disadvantaged and highrisk
\nstudents, strengthening career counselling, increasing students\u2019
\nemployment competency, expanding international academic
\nexchange and collaboration, and finally, enlarging faculty and
\nstudents\u2019 international perspective and competitiveness.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
