The College was founded on the 1st of August 2012, integrating
\nthe Department of Psychology (Undergraduate and Master\u2019s
\nPrograms), the Department of Medical Sociology and Social Work
\n(Undergraduate and Master\u2019s Degree Programs), the Graduate
\nInstitute of Gender Studies and some other units. Non-departmental
\ninstructional units were reorganized: Physical Education Division
\nand Language Education Division were upgraded to become the
\nCenter for Physical Education and the Center for Language and
\nCulture respectively. Likewise, the Division of Humanities and
\nSocial Sciences was to become the Center for Humanities and Arts
\nEducation while the division of Natural and Applied Sciences was
\nturned into the Center for Fundamental Science Education.
\nThe College coordinates human health and welfare as the focus
\nof teaching and research, to provide impetus to the education
\nof humanities and social sciences, and to streamline researches
\nrelevant to medical humanities, healthy communities, and medical
\npsychology. We hope to educate professionals in the healthcare and
\nmedical industry, to familiarize students with theory and practice,
\nand to nurture their interdisciplinary perception in Psychology,
\nApplied Sociology and Social Work. Moreover, the College is
\nan advocator and executant cultivating our students’ humanities
\nconcern.
\nThe undergraduate programs of the College center on both theory
\nand practice, engaging in students\u2019 major fields as well as those
\nof the interdisciplinary. Our graduate studies aim at educating
\nprofessionals with in-depth training in Psychology, Applied
\nSociology and Social Work as needed in the healthcare and
\nmedical Industry, strengthening the already established teaching,
\nresearch and service of psychology, applied sociology and social
\nwork in the healthcare and medical field. In addition, the College
\nsystematically cultivates students\u2019 humanistic values needed
\nin the healthcare and medical field by the design of curricula,
\narrangement of instructors, enlivening of teaching approaches,
\nand the exposure of learning through experience.
\nIn order to advance teachers\u2019 teaching strategies, the College holds
\na teaching workshop for teachers each semester to exchange
\nmethods with specialists or professors outside of KMU. In addition,
\nthe College consistently encourages teachers to improve designs
\nof courses, moreover, to create new teaching activities to enhance
\nstudents\u2019 outcome-based learning. Besides workshops, teachers
\nthemselves organize teaching groups according to subjects,
\nbrainstorming and discussing arrangements of courses as well as
\nteaching methods in the certain group, meanwhile learning and
\nencouraging each other to elevate teaching quality. As for
\nprofessional research, teachers associates with those with similar
\nprofessions in College to do research and offer professional
\nservices. In 2013 and early 2014, we respectively set up universitylevel
\n\u201cResearch Center for Nonlinear Analysis and Optimization\u201d
\nleading by the Center for Fundamental Science Education and
\ncollege-level \u201cPositive Psychology Center\u201d installing by the
\nDepartment of Psychology to integrate resources inside and outside
\nof KMU and promote cooperative research projects.
\nImproving students\u2019 humanities and characters and to create a
\nlearning environment with the atmosphere of humanism and culture
\nis the main mission of the College of Humanities and Social
\nSciences. In 2013, the College played a leading role at facilitating
\nthe policy– all freshmen as members of KMU Academy. In order
\nto facilitate the campus with a milieu of arts, the College takes
\nplan the festival of arts annually. The topics of the lectures range
\nfrom literature, history, philosophy, arts, and social issues.
\nSpecialists in different fields will be invited to give talks with
\nstudents. In order to grow students\u2019 ability to appreciate arts and
\nculture, the College has planned a series of dynamic activities and
\nart exhibitions, by which teachers and students can experience an
\nartistic world totally different from their professions. Since the
\nestablishment of the College in August 2012, the College has held
\nmore than 200 lectures and activities concerning humanities and
\nsocial sciences and the number of participants are over 40,000.
\nThe College of Humanities and Social Science keeps on developing.
\nWith the efforts of all KMU\u2019s members, the College will move
\nforward to realize the goal that set up by KMU was founded.
\nWe hope the founding of the College can introduce brand now
\natmosphere to KMU in both social science research and humanities,
\nand furthermore, to nurture medical professionals with the spirit
