Kaohsiung City Government had planned the task of bidding
\nfor several months from April 18, 2013. In December 13, 2013,
\nthe government officially announced KMU as ROT\u2019s most
\nexcellent applicant. On October 1 2014, after over nine months of
\nplanning and trial operations, the opening and operating ceremony
\nof Kaohsiung Municipal Cijin Hospital and \u201cJames Laidlaw
\nMaxwell\u2019s House\u201d was hosted by the city mayor, Chu Chen,
\nSecretary of Ministry of Health and Welfare, Chi-Kung Ho, KMU\u2019s
\nChairman of the Board, James D. Chen, KMU\u2019s president,
\nChing-Kuan Liu and the first superintendent, Chao-Hung Kuo.
\nIn 1866, Dr. James Laidlaw Maxwell set up Taiwan\u2019s first modern
\nmedical hospital\u2014\u201cTakow Hospital.\u201d He was the first western
\ndoctor conducting medical treatment in Taiwan. It has been 150
\nyears since Dr. Maxwell set up \u201cTakow Hospital,\u201d and Kaohsiung
\nCity Government considers Cijin \u201cthe beginning of modern
\nhospitals in Taiwan; also the origin of modern medical education
\nin Taiwan\u201d, so expects the KMU medical system to follow Dr.
\nMaxwell\u2019s mission to undertake the responsibility of taking care
\nof health of Cijin\u2019s citizens.
\nBesides offering outpatient clinic, emergency department and
\nhospitalization services, the hospital has brand-new equipment in
\nrehabilitation, hemodialysis, dental clinic and operating rooms,
\nwhich can offer Cijin\u2019s inhabitants a comprehensive healthcare
\nservice. Besides, the hospital has introduced the first CT scanner
\nin Cijin, facilitating diseases diagnosis.
\nKMCH is the only medical institute in Cijin district, which has
\nthe responsibility to offer medical service to 30,000 inhabitants.
\nKMCH deeply understands the medical demands and expectations
\nof Cijin\u2019s inhabitants, so it offers \u201cStrengthen local medical service,
\ndevelop characteristc care model\u201d as the goal and taking \u201cGuard
\nhealth of Cijin generations, become a golden standard community
\nhospital of holistic care\u201d as the future mission. KMCH upholds
\nthe concept of 1) \u201cpatient-center and patient\u2019s safety as the main
\naxis\u201d; 2) focus on community healthcare promotion, and integrating
\ncurrent resources; and 3) exploration of medical features,
\nintensifying differences between markets and elevating medical
\nquality. In addition, the hospital \u201cstrengthens community service\u201d
\nand \u201coptimizes the function of medical care,\u201d which is its operating
\nstrategy. KMCH will integrate the medical care in Chung-Ho
\nMemorial Hospital, Municipal Siaogang Hospital, and Municipal
\nTa-Tung Hospital vertically, and strengthen contact with the
\nlocal Preventive Medicine Foundation to provide high-quality
\nmedical care.
\nKMCH is founded upon the core idea of a holistic healthcare
\nmedical system, emphasizing the idea of an individual as center,
\nfamily as unit, and community as range to provide comprehensive,
\ncoordinated and continuing medical healthcare. KMCH will strive to
\nbecome a \u201cHealth Promoting Hospital,\u201d combining the most novel
\ninformation and communication technology to offer the community
\ndiverse healthcare promotion services, integrating community
\nresources, encouraging community people to participate and
\nundertake the responsibility to promote community health, setting
\nup a health promotion taking-care-cloud in Cijin district, upholding
\nand improving community health, preventing diseases actively,
\nand creating a healthy island with comprehensive healthcare.
\nKMCH will be devoted to doing research on cohort of Cijin
\ncitizens. Cijin district is similar to Framingham in the U.S., which
\nincludes three advantages: 1. Geographical separation from
\nKaohsiung City, which makes itself into an independent district;2. Steady population, low immigration and emigration rate; and
\n3. No other large scale hospitals, except for KMCH, which makes
\neasily accessible the medical records on light or severe diseases.
\nKMCH expects to establish a generational tracking research based
\non the hospital as foundation, even the community as foundation,
\nand family as unit. The accumulation of the research results will
\nbenefit the Cijin community and will have great contribution to
\nhealthcare in Taiwan and even the world.
\nTherefore, KMCH will provide medical services by taking Cijin
\nneighbors as \u201cgood neighbors\u201d to bring convenience to Cijin
\ncitizens when they go to the hospital, and meanwhile, they can
\nrecieve high-quality healthcare. With the help of excellent medical
\nskills and good quality of the medical group from the medical
\ncenter, Cijin hospital will be devoted to providing medical services
\nin general medicine, family medicine, preventive medicine, acute
\nhealth care and community health. In the future, it will develop
\nthe subacute or chronic healthcare institutes so as to establish a
