Within the recent three years, the increase of new<br \/>\ncollaborative cases with sister schools is as follows: 6 cases in<br \/>\n2012, 4 cases in 2013, and 23 cases in 2014. The year of 2014 can<br \/>\nbe said to be the most brilliant year of having cooperative relations<br \/>\noutside the university. In addition to the exchanges with the sister<br \/>\nschools, KMU has also joined international activities assiduously,<br \/>\nincluding Educators\u2019 annual conferences, the Taiwan-Florida and<br \/>\nTaiwan-Maryland Conferences on Higher Education, and QS<br \/>\nInternational Events for Professional Leaders in Education.<br \/>\nParticipating in APCS (Asia Pacific Cities Summit) in 2013 also<br \/>\nstrengthened KMU\u2019s international network and raised KMU\u2019s<br \/>\ninternational awareness. Moreover, KMU hosted \u201cTaiwan-<br \/>\nMaryland Conference on Higher Education\u201d in 2014, which invited<br \/>\nscholars from universities in both Taiwan and the State of Maryland<br \/>\nto communicate and brainstorm on mutual academic collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>International collaborative teaching courses<\/p>\n<p>According to individual needs, teachers can plan courses by<br \/>\nthemselves and invite international scholars to give the course<br \/>\ntogether. By doing so, students will have a cross-cultural vision<br \/>\nand acquire professional content. The number of foreign scholars<br \/>\nwho have come to KMU to give courses reached twenty-one in<br \/>\n2012, sixty-one in 2013 and forty-five in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Dual Ph.D. Degree Program<\/p>\n<p>In order to raise KMU\u2019s awareness and acquire more international<br \/>\nresources and cooperating opportunities, KMU signed agreements<br \/>\nwith the University of Szeged in Hungary and the Uppsala<br \/>\nUniversity in Sweden between 2011- 2012 on the cooperation of<br \/>\nthe Dual Ph.D. Degree Program. One doctoral student has<br \/>\ngraduated from the Natural Products Institute from the University<br \/>\nof Szeged in Hungary in 2014. KMU also signed an agreement on<br \/>\nthe Dual Ph.D. Degree with UC Irvine in the U.S and Aix-Marseille<br \/>\nUniversity in France between 2013-2015 to encourage teachers<br \/>\nand students to have more international communications.<\/p>\n<p>Collaborative teaching courses given by the scholars from<br \/>\nHarvard University and University of Arkansas for Medical<br \/>\nSciences (UAMS)<\/p>\n<p>Since 2009, KMU has successfully invited scholars from Harvard<br \/>\nUniversity to give collaborative teaching courses. Besides, KMU<br \/>\nhas maintained a good relationship with our first sister school, the<br \/>\nUniversity of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), since 1980.<br \/>\nTo strengthen the exchange with UAMS, KMU has cooperated<br \/>\nwith UAMS to provide a course project called \u201cUAMS Biochem<br \/>\nWeek\u201d for medical students since 2012. Furthermore, the \u201cLiver<br \/>\nWeek\u201d has been formed with Harvard scholars since 2014, too.<\/p>\n<p>Cultivating Teachers\u2019 and<br \/>\nStudents\u2019 Global Mobility<\/p>\n<p>Students\u2019 study abroad exchange and participation in<br \/>\ninternational conferences<\/p>\n<p>1.The subsidy for studying abroad<br \/>\nKMU enacts \u201cGuidelines for the grants of students\u2019 studying<br \/>\nabroad service\u201d and encourages students to take courses abroad,<br \/>\nlearn on the job, join volunteer activities, participate in industry<br \/>\ninternship, or publish papers. The number of people who applied<br \/>\nfor the subsidy these three years: 334 persons in 2012, 408 persons<br \/>\nin 2013 and 418 persons in 2014.<br \/>\n2.Study Abroad Project under the Ministry of Education<br \/>\nKMU sends students abroad for overseas study with the<br \/>\nMinistry of Education\u2019s subsidiary projects: Scholarships for<br \/>\nExcellent Students to Study Abroad; Hardship for Students to<br \/>\nStudy Abroad; and Pilot Overseas Internships. In 2011 and 2012,<br \/>\nthree students were selected under Scholarships for Excellent<br \/>\nStudents to Study Abroad, and 26 students under Pilot Overseas<br \/>\nInternships. Four students were selected under Scholarships for<br \/>\nExcellent Students to Study Abroad, and 36 students under Pilot<br \/>\nOverseas Internships in 2013, while 8 students under Scholarships<br \/>\nfor Excellent Students to Study Abroad, and 31 students under<br \/>\nPilot Overseas Internships were selected in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Recognizing overseas course credits<\/p>\n<p>Students of the Department of Medicine and Post-graduate Medical<br \/>\nDepartment will be sent to Harvard University, University of Hawaii,<br \/>\nUniversity of Seoul, and Juntendo University for learning and<br \/>\ninternships. Graduate students of the College of Nursing will be<br \/>\nsent to The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston<br \/>\nfor taking cross-cultural nursing courses. Students of the College<br \/>\nof Health and Science still studying in the graduate program will<br \/>\nbe sent to the Medical Management Institute of Virginia University<br \/>\nfor taking the course, \u201cAmerican Medical Management Practice,\u201d<br \/>\nof which credit will be recognized by KMU.<\/p>\n<p>International Volunteering Service Project:<\/p>\n<p>KMU has selected students to provide medical services to the<br \/>\nSolomon Islands, the Kingdom of Malawi, and India since<br \/>\n2007. The Kingdom of Malawi group was awarded \u201cFirst place in<br \/>\nthe iVT volunteer group of the southern region\u201d and \u201cExcellent<br \/>\nperformance in the iVT volunteer group of the southern region\u201d<br \/>\nin 2012, and \u201cFirst place in the regional peace volunteer group of<br \/>\ninternational volunteer service\u201d in 2013. Malawi and the North<br \/>\nIndia groups cooperated with National Sun Yat-sen University to<br \/>\noffer many more services to these developing areas in 2014. In the<br \/>\nsame year, Malawi group was awarded Second place in the Taiwan\u00a0Youth volunteers group competition of international volunteer.<br \/>\nThe year 2015 opens a new page for international volunteers since<br \/>\nthe Indonesia group and the international volunteer club were found<br \/>\nat the same time so as to recruit more students who are interested<br \/>\nin international affairs and volunteer services.<\/p>\n<p>Enhancing Overseas Students\u2019<br \/>\nAmount<\/p>\n<p>Propagating KMU\u2019s learning programs, receiving overseas<br \/>\nstudents<\/p>\n<p>In order to increase the enrollment of overseas students, KMU<br \/>\npropagates learning programs and admission information,<br \/>\nparticipates in overseas education fairs, and contacts Taiwan\u2019s<br \/>\noverseas offices and overseas centers of education. The number<br \/>\nof overseas students is increasing each year: 42 persons in 2012<br \/>\nand 55 persons in 2013. In addition, the \u201cBachelor program of the<br \/>\nDepartment of Medical Laboratory Science and Biotechnology\u201d<br \/>\nhas begun to receive overseas students since 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Encouraging overseas students as exchange students to KMU<\/p>\n<p>1.\u201cTaiwan Tech Trek, TTT,\u201d National Science Council<br \/>\nKMU offers professional internship opportunities and attracts<br \/>\nmany students to apply for the program. These applicants are<br \/>\noutstanding. Fifteen persons participated in summer program in<br \/>\nKMU in 2011, and 15 persons in 2012. In 2014, there will be<br \/>\n13 students. 6 students came to participate in this program, and<br \/>\nin 2015 will be 7 students.<br \/>\n2.MHIRT (Minority Health and Health Disparities International<br \/>\nResearch Training) Project by San Diego University<br \/>\nKMU cooperates with San Diego University, where students who<br \/>\nare selected can receive related training and research in KMU<br \/>\nduring the summer vacation. Five students in 2011, two students<br \/>\ncame annually from 2012 to 2014. And in 2015, there will be<br \/>\ntwo students come to participate in this program.<br \/>\n3.In regard to the Exchange Overseas students from sister schools,<br \/>\ninternational student organizations, and students applying for<br \/>\nthe program themselves, there were 162 students in 2011, 137<br \/>\nstudents in 2012, and 114 students in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Encouraging English-teaching courses<\/p>\n<p>Master\u2019s and Ph.D. programs have uploaded their syllabuses in<br \/>\nEnglish.
